HALLOWEEN IN SINGAPORE!

Just wanted to send a few photos of what Halloween is like in Singapore. It was WILD! We gave out over 2,000 pieces of candy in two hours, and could have used another 500 pieces or more. One piece of candy per person, and we had not only kids, but moms, dads, even grandparents trick-or-treating! Evidently Halloween is a big deal in Singapore - all the locals and expats alike head up to the Woodlands (American) neighborhood to trick-or-treat. The streets are closed off and it lasts until you run out of candy. We were told to buy TONS of candy and be prepared, but I have NEVER seen anything like it! The fun started at 6:00pm with Shelby putting on his "Michael Myers Halloween" mask and standing at the gate. The people came in droves and it was never-ending. We gave out more candy in ten minutes than we did in all of our nine years in Dallas! Shelby was a big hit with his mask on, and will be in many family photos as most of the locals wanted a photo of him with their children! I'm surprised that he didn't pass out from wearing a rubber mask in the heat and humidity - he sure was sweaty. I put a mask on and lasted maybe five minutes before I had to take it off! Wesley missed all the fun and went to a party instead. Kasey and her friends wore sarongs and had a great time.
My latest greatest discovery in Singapore is the "Chicken Man". The chicken man will deliver any and all parts of the chicken to your home (including chicken feet - quite the delicacy over here!) The chicken is fresh and delivery is free, and he will skin it if you like. He also brings bags of chicken bones so that you can make your own chicken stock. I placed an order and was up to my elbows in poultry the rest of the day, freezing chicken breasts and boiling chicken broth. I didn't realize the chickens were "double-breasted" and got more than I bargained for, so our freezer is absolutely full of chicken! We have had chicken prepared every which way for the past couple of weeks and I am getting quite proficient at making chicken parmesan, chicken shishkabobs, chicken nuggets, chicken salad, and of course let's not forget the Chinese staple, chicken and rice! I actually have a chicken pot pie in the oven for dinner tonight. When I bought a cookbook titled "365 Easy Chicken Recipes" and showed it to the family they all groaned. :) Feel free to send me any of your favorite chicken recipes and I will gladly try them!
Also you'll be glad to know that everyone in southeast Asia is very much interested in the U.S. presidential election. Shelby and I are so amazed at how much press the U.S. presidential race has been given over here. A few months ago the interest centered around whether or not Hillary would be nominated. Now everyone wants to know who we are voting for, and they are not shy at all about asking! I've had taxi drivers ask me who I'm voting for, the doctor I saw last week was very concerned about my vote, shopkeepers at the markets want to know who we're voting for. Even last week when Shelby was in Manila people there questioned him about the election. Rest assured we will all be up early on Wednesday morning to watch the election results! And yes, we did send in our votes by absentee ballots in case you're concerned...ha!
So get out there and vote, and be mindful that you live in the great U.S. of A.!!!
