This morning we went on our last game drive. It was very low key, we just enjoyed the easy drive and the cloud cover, and one last chance to see the many zebras, giraffes, impalas, and elephants. We headed back to the camp to pack our bags, planning on a noon flight from Madike back to Johannesburg on the dreaded paper airplane. As we were preparing to say goodbye to the staff, a call came in that the transfer flight would be landing at the runway at 11:00am instead of noon, and we needed to hurry! Lucky sped all the way, and we were flying along the dirt and gravel roads at high speeds-it was a thrill ride, for sure, and Wesley was loving every minute of it! I was gripping the seat (no seat belts, of course) and praying that we wouldn't roll the jeep. What normally would be a 40 minute drive became a 23 minute thrill ride and we made it to the airstrip just as the plane was landing. Kasey and I didn't even have time to worry about the upcoming plane ride! We all jumped out, said goodbye to Lucky and took one final photo with him, and jumped on board the little plane. As luck would have it, there were giraffe on the runway and we had to wait for them to clear it! We landed in Johannesburg, collected our luggage that we had stored there previously, then caught our flight to Cape Town, arriving in Cape Town around 6:00pm. We were met by a driver from the Cape Royale and taken to our apartment, which was very nice. We quickly noticed that all the appliances were Siemens appliances! There was a Siemens refrigerator, toaster, dishwasher, microwave, and Siemens washer and dryer combo. Ha! Our hotel was within walking distance of the V&A Waterfront, and we had a view of the stadium that will hold the FIFA World Cup Soccer Match this summer.
We went out for a pizza and noticed that it was much cooler in Cape Town than at the safari camp! It is summer in Cape Town, and the weather is dry, with warm sunny days and cool nights - just perfect!
We took this photo with Lucky after the thrill ride he gave us to the airstrip!
