There's usually one day in every vacation we take where the boys go fishing and the girls go shopping. This time the girls had a lot more fun shopping than the guys did fishing. They basically were dropped off on a dock at a lake where nobody spoke any English. They couldn't communicate nor did they catch any fish. They said they were entertained by a group of Thai girls on a neighboring dock who were doing bad karaoke, and vowed to bring their golf clubs on the next trip!

Looks like this guy knows how to catch a fish

Words of wisdom to live by
Kasey and I went to a Thai silk factory where we saw how Thai silk is made, from the moths laying the silkworm eggs to the cocoons being boiled and the silk threads extracted, dyed, and woven on handlooms. Here a woman is pedaling a handloom and making beautiful silk fabric.
The paper umbrella factory was probably our favorite of the day. We watched the umbrellas being made from start to finish, completely by hand. The umbrellas and fans were handpainted and put out in the sun to dry. Kasey had an umbrella custom painted for her, and they wrote her name in Thai on the umbrella.

This woman told me she learned to paint ten years ago from her parents, who were also painters

This woman is gluing the paper onto the frames. We were impressed that they took the time to make each one by hand
Our tour guide then took us to a modern shopping mall where we were so excited to find an Auntie Anne's pretzel shop! In one of the shops, Kasey purchased a pair of sunglasses and when she gave the shopkeeper her money, the lady waved the bill and proceeded to touch everything in the store with the bill. This is a sign of good luck and is always done with the first sale of the day. It took us a little off guard until our tour guide explained what she was doing!
